2014 Goals and Intentions

Happy New Year!

Last night Eric and I took a few moments, as we do each year, to review our previous year and discuss our vision for the coming year.

We both agreed 2013 was "status quo" -  We had paid off our debts in 2011, we'd bought a house in 2012, we'd had a toddler and were pregnant with another, we were stable in our jobs...it was just a year of tweaking and keeping our little family afloat.

On the upside, we both took up Spiritual Direction and have been tackling some major road blocks in our personal/spiritual lives and in our marriage.  It's been very healing and fruitful for both of us.  We also went 80-20 grain-free and saw dramatic difference in how we feel physically (and in my case, emotionally and mentally as well).  These are both huge accomplishments. Yay us!

In part, we felt like we struggled with 2013 because we never wrote down our goals like we have in years past. (Do I sound like a youth minister or what?)

Today I put the pen to the paper.  The first page on my Erin Condren Life Planner has my goals written.  I want to see them regularly.

I want to share them with YOU to help keep me accountable:

Spiritual

  • Continue spiritual direction and put my best effort into my "assignments"
  • Pray for 15 minutes each day

Marriage

  • Pray together nightly
  • Have one "no media" night a week to foster good conversation

Parenting

  • Plan one fun activity a week
  • Work on not raising my voice so quickly

Financial

  • Rework and recommit to our budget and financial goals. And for me, the spender, to make a better effort to do my part
  • Examine our spending habits, re-prioritize, and find little ways to cut back (It's been a few years since we've done this)

Interpersonal

  • Be a better friend, reach out to my girlfriends, affirm instead of criticize
  • Be a more gracious hostess

Physical

  • Recommit to only one grain / sweet per day
  • Stretch a few minutes each night

Career

  • Continue my discernment process with my husband and spiritual director
  • Trust that God will take care of me no matter what
  • Begin the process of starting a small business

Other

I have a few other small check list type stuff I want to get done, like organize the linen closet (again), catalog all our favorite meals for easy meal planning, and declutter our kitchen....

What's on your list for 2014?

  3. I *love* this! I remember your re-cap from last year, and I remember thinking, "I should take notes, so I can do this next year!" Ha, not so much....maybe next year?

  4. For Lent this year we gave up TV and phones when we were both home and it was awesome...we decided it needed to be a regular part of our week

  5. It is a bit of work. Takes about a day to sit with my Google calendar and old blog posts to piece it all together, but it's SO fun to remember the year. Start now for this year :)

Where has she been?*

It's been a while, friends. Hi! Where did we leave off?  Ah yes, the roach .  He's still alive.  It's been over 10 days.  Though, he's slowing down and looking a little skinnier than when we first found him.  Maybe I'm making it up. I've started my new job with my friends lawn maintenance company.  Most of my time has been spent learning all the new (to me) software, moving the office to it's new locations, and just learning what the company does and offers.  Chris and I have had a great time working together so far.  I'm really enjoying learning new things.  Chris has already taught me a lot about great customer service. This weekend was my last retreat with middle school kids.  It was bittersweet. We had a spirit filled weekend full of lots of laughs, low ropes, rock wall, ultimate frisbee, prayer, and learning about Jesus. Our theme was "You Never Let Go" and we discussed three parables:  The Lost Sheep, The Lost Coin, ...

Baking with Betty: Dunwoody Dip

You're probably asking yourself, what is Dunwoody Dip? And it's a great question! It's easy to make. Melty. Cheesy. Meaty. A little bit spicy. And everyone LOVES it!  The origin, though, it's a more difficult to nail down.  My grandmother, who is from Dunwoody, Ga, actually heard about this dip when she was visiting friends in Denver.  Urban legend has it that some guy brought the dip to a party in Denver and when prompted for a name he stalled and said "Dunwoody Dip." Because, apparently he was from Dunwoody.   Who really knows? All I do know, is that this dip is yummy, very easy to make, and is always the first gone at a party or family get together.  Also, Eric might have married me because of this... Dunwoody Dip Ingredients: One tube of Jimmy Dean Hot Sausage Two cans of Rotel Tomatoes - Hot Two bars of Cream Cheese Big bag of Fritos Scoops Directions: Preheat oven to 325. In a large frying pan over medium-ish heat, brown the sausage. ...
