Bump Watch: Week 29

How far along? 29 weeks 2 days

How big is baby?

Total weight gain? 19.5 pounds.  Comment: I have been very self conscious about gaining weight this pregnancy. I went through a lot last year working through body imagine, food addiction, and emotional eating issues. Seeing that weight creep back on has been really, really hard for me.  Until.. the other night I was changing into my pajamas and caught my reflection in the mirror. On the scale I weigh the same as I did January 1, 2013 when my journey began.  However, seeing my belly now containing life absolutely brought me to tears. I've been blessed with such a gift!  It was so healing to see my body as life-giving instead of as the enemy.

Maternity clothes? I wasn't going to buy anything else, but Babies R Us was having 70% off their maternity clothes last week, so I bought one more long sleeved shirt on a whim. It's kind of my new favorite!

Stretch marks? Nothing new this pregnancy!  My belly is getting itchy though...aak!

Belly button? It's half in, half out. Looks silly popping out of my shirts!

Exercise:  At my last check up I was more or less scolded about not walking enough.

Sleep: Comes and goes in waves.  Few good nights of sleep following by a few nights of tossing and turning. Fortunately it hasn't really affected me during the day.

Movement: I don't know if the placenta is in a different place than with Evie or if I just don't remember all the movement, but it's almost painful this pregnancy. It really catches me off guard and her jabs and turns really hurt!

Food cravings: coke, cookies, cereal, waffles with butter and syrup, fruit, raisins, milk and ice cream.  So you can see the low grain, low sugar diet has gone out the window. Bring on the junk food!

Food aversions: please don't even ask me about the nine pound smoked Boston Butt in my fridge.

What I miss: Sleeping on my stomach. Like I craaaaaaave it. And it makes me angry that I can't even pretend to lay on my stomach anymore.

What I am looking forward to: Not being pregnant. The first of my  due in February-June pregnant friends is in early labor as we speak and I am SOOOO jealous!!!

Milestones: Third trimester, baby!

Say What?

"You're having a vaginal delivery?"
"Yes"
"People still do that?"

Sweet moments: Evie loves to listen to the doppler.  She even went to my 28 week check up with me and listen for it.

Make room for baby: We started transitioning Evie to her big girl room.  I am slowly stocking up on a few new things for baby. Found a great deal on some Life Factory teethers, aden + anais blankets, a new nursing sleep bra, some newborn pants, a sleeper, and a newborn hat. Nothing we really NEEEEEEDED but it's nice to add a few fresh things to the pile.

Had two friends loan me different new born wraps. THANK YOU! I can't wait to play with them to see which one I like better.

Oh, and THIS:  Starting to get a little puffy.  It's mostly been super late at night and first thing in the morning.  Trying to keep my sodium intake in check, as well as keep an eye on my blood pressure.
My blood pressure has been slowly creeping up. My midwife says we're going to keep an eye on it and if it gets much higher she's going to turn me over to the doctor for a visit or two for him to assess if we need to try a BP medicine in addition to the vitamin regime she suggested.

Compared to Evie:

  • I am still wearing my rings!
  • No carpel tunnel
  • Carrying higher
  • Only gained half the weight so far
  • Can still wear normal shoes, but feet are starting to swell
  • Read Evie's 29-30 week update!

Where has she been?*

It's been a while, friends. Hi! Where did we leave off?  Ah yes, the roach .  He's still alive.  It's been over 10 days.  Though, he's slowing down and looking a little skinnier than when we first found him.  Maybe I'm making it up. I've started my new job with my friends lawn maintenance company.  Most of my time has been spent learning all the new (to me) software, moving the office to it's new locations, and just learning what the company does and offers.  Chris and I have had a great time working together so far.  I'm really enjoying learning new things.  Chris has already taught me a lot about great customer service. This weekend was my last retreat with middle school kids.  It was bittersweet. We had a spirit filled weekend full of lots of laughs, low ropes, rock wall, ultimate frisbee, prayer, and learning about Jesus. Our theme was "You Never Let Go" and we discussed three parables:  The Lost Sheep, The Lost Coin, ...

Baking with Betty: Dunwoody Dip

You're probably asking yourself, what is Dunwoody Dip? And it's a great question! It's easy to make. Melty. Cheesy. Meaty. A little bit spicy. And everyone LOVES it!  The origin, though, it's a more difficult to nail down.  My grandmother, who is from Dunwoody, Ga, actually heard about this dip when she was visiting friends in Denver.  Urban legend has it that some guy brought the dip to a party in Denver and when prompted for a name he stalled and said "Dunwoody Dip." Because, apparently he was from Dunwoody.   Who really knows? All I do know, is that this dip is yummy, very easy to make, and is always the first gone at a party or family get together.  Also, Eric might have married me because of this... Dunwoody Dip Ingredients: One tube of Jimmy Dean Hot Sausage Two cans of Rotel Tomatoes - Hot Two bars of Cream Cheese Big bag of Fritos Scoops Directions: Preheat oven to 325. In a large frying pan over medium-ish heat, brown the sausage. ...
